Do I Need GMAT for an MBA Program in Canada?
While Most Canadian universities ask for GMAT scores to meet their admission requirements, there are two universities in British Columbia where admission can be offered without writing either GMAT or GRE. International students may be admitted to University Canada West or Thompson Rivers University without writing the GMAT exam.
Applying for admission to one of these universities has the following benefits:
No GMAT required for admission – If you are a BBA or Bachelor of Commerce graduate, you do not need to write the GMAT exam to meet admission requirements at UCW (University Canada West). If you apply to their MBA program with a non-business degree, then GMAT is required. A GPA of 3 out of 4.33 is required. Thompson Rivers University (TRU) does not require GMAT regardless of the discipline in a previous degree. So, whether you have an Engineering degree or a Business degree, you are still admissible without GMAT. They may ask for a GMAT score if the admissions committee finds deficiencies in the student’s academic record submitted in the admissions application. TRU requires a GPA of 3 out of 4.33 in the last 60 credits.
No Work Experience required for admission – Most universities in Canada that offer an MBA program require applicants to have a minimum of 2 years work experience as part of their admission requirements. But UCW will accept BBA, B.Com. or students from an equivalent degree even if they do not have work experience. TRU does not require professional work experience for its applicants, but work experience is recommended.
Affordable tuition – Studying an MBA program at a top-tiered university in Canada is costly. This is the most sited disadvantage of studying an MBA program. Tuition costs for MBA at a Canadian university can exceed $78,000 CAD. But both UCW and TRU offer their MBA programs at an affordable cost. The current tuition rate at University Canada West is approximately $35,000 CAD for the 2 years. Thompson Rivers is slightly more, but still affordable at $45,000 CAD for the 2-years. International students may work part-time while earning their degrees and at both TRU and UCW scholarships are available.
